Morning Prayer

Prayer, Bible Reading and Devotional Thoughts

Twelfth Sunday after Trinity

Subject:

God the Giver and Forgiver.

Design for Worship:

This week's design teaches us that God gives us more than we can ask or think, for if we are blind, deaf and mute to our sin, in His mercy He helps us seek forgiveness for what we dare not speak, and gives us the good things for which we dare not ask.

Epistle Lesson:

2 Corinthians 3: 4-9

Gospel Lesson:

Mark 7: 31-37

Revised Collect:

Almighty and everlasting God, You are always more ready to listen than we are to pray, and constantly give more than either we desire or deserve; so, we pray, pour down on us the abundance of Your mercy, forgiving us what our conscience fears to mention, and giving us the good things for which our conscience forbids us to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord.

Original Collect:

Almighty and everlasting God, who art always more ready to hear than we to pray, and art wont to give more than either we desire or deserve; Pour down upon us the abundance of thy mercy; forgiving us those things whereof our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask, but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord.
