First Sunday in Advent
Subject:
The two comings.
Design for Worship:
This week's Design for Worship has us looking back and forward to the first and second advents of Christ, so that we can learn from His first coming and anticipate His second coming by living like those changed by these two events.
Epistle Lesson:
Romans 13: 8-14
Gospel Lesson:
Matthew 24:3-14
Revised Collect:
Almighty God, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, in great humility to live an earthly life. Now in these days of our earthly life may Your grace enable us to throw off the works of darkness and put on us the armor of light. And when our Savior comes again in Glorious Majesty, to judge the living and the dead, may we rise to eternal life, through Him who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, now and ever.
Original Collect:
Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; That in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious Majesty, to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever.
