The Circumcision of Christ

In covenant with God.
Design for Worship:
The design for worship this day is to observe how Christ, even as an infant kept God's Law perfectly. At the same time, we should recognize His suffering for us, and seek to have our hearts circumcised that we would also desire to keep God's Law, to please and honor Him, but not as a means to our salvation.
Epistle Lesson:
Philippians 3: 3-9

Luke 2: 15-21
Collect Usage Note:
This Collect may be used until January 5th.
Revised Collect:
Almighty God, Your counsel determined that Your Son would obey Your Law for man and so He shed His blood and suffered for us in Circumcision. Cause us to know the true Circumcision of the Spirit; so our hearts, and all our members, dead to all sinful desires, may lead us to obey Your blessed will in all things; through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Original Collect:
Almighty God, who madest thy blessed Son to be circumcised, and obedient to the Law for man; Grant us the true Circumcision of the Spirit; that, our hearts, and all our members, being mortified from all worldly and carnal lusts, we may in all things obey thy blessed will; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
