Alternate Name:
The Sunday Next Before Easter
Usage Note:
The Collect for the First Day in Lent (Ash Wednesday) may be used following the weekly Collect throughout Lent.
Subject:
No Cross, no Crown.
Design for Worship:
This week's design for worship is the unfolding of God's plan of salvation for mankind. As we gain comprehension and realize the benefits of the price and extent of so great a salvation, we are to practice Christ-like humility and love to those around us.
Epistle Lesson:
Philippians 2: 5-11
Gospel Lesson:
Matthew 27: 1-54 or Matthew 21: 1-13
Revised Collect:
Almighty, everlasting God, it was Your tender love toward mankind that sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to assume our nature, to suffer a cruel death on the cross for our salvation, and to also give all mankind an example of great humility that we should follow; mercifully call us to be benefactors of His suffering, partakers of His resurrection and disciples of His patience.
Original Collect:
Almighty and everlasting God, who, of thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon him our flesh, and to suffer death upon the cross that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility; Mercifully grant, that we may both follow the example of his patience, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.
