The Transfiguration of Christ
Usage Note:
The Collect, Epistle and Gospel Lesson may be used the last Sunday of Epiphany, otherwise called the Sunday next before Septuagesima.
Design for Worship:
This weeks design for worship reminds us that we serve a glorious King, whose beauty is not measured in human terms, but is pure and bright, and it is His appearance we should desire to see.
Epistle Lesson:
2 Peter 1: 13-18
Gospel Lesson:
Luke 9: 28-36
Revised Collect:
Almighty God, You revealed Your only-begotten Son in glistening white garments and gloriously transfigured to chosen witnesses on the mount; Mercifully allow us, who have been delivered from the anxiety of the world, to see the King in His beauty, who with You, Father and Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever.
Original Collect:
O God, who on the mount didst reveal to chosen witnesses thine only-begotten Son gloriously transfigured, in raiment white and glistering; Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may be permitted to behold the King in his beauty; who with thee, O Father, and thee, O Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth, one God, world without end.
